Hi there,
Corrina here - creator of the Vintage Bird Paint range.
So you've just given your tired old furniture a new lease on life with some Vintage Bird Furniture Paint - congrats! Now, it's time to show off your new creation and make it the star of your room. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using the rule of three when it comes to styling.
The rule of three is a basic principle in design that suggests things arranged in odd numbers are more visually appealing and memorable than even numbers.
This well used and developed design principle works on the premise that the eye is naturally drawn to odd groupings of objects.
It creates a sense of balance and harmony, which is why it's such a great tool for styling your furniture - especially if you're looking to show off your gorgeous, fresh pieces you've just up-cycled with Vintage Bird Furniture Paint!
You don't need to rush out and buy new, or expensive items, and you don't need matching designs. Just experiment until you find something think looks great together. Eclectic is cool!
So, now we've looked at why the rule of three works, here are some of my top tips for styling your furniture using it in your home.
Create a vignette: A vignette is a group of decorative objects that are arranged together to create a visually appealing display. For example, you could place your newly painted dresser in the corner of your bedroom and create a vignette on top of it using three decorative objects, such as a vase, a picture frame, and a candle.
Add some greenery: Plants and flowers are a great way to bring some life and colour into your room. Try using a trio of small plants in coordinating pots to add some visual interest to your newly painted furniture. (See the pic at bottom of page for more)
Mix pattern and texture: Another way to add interest to your room is by mixing textures. For example, you could drape a fringed, tartan wool throw over your newly painted bench and place a couple of textured pillows on top in complimentary colours. Add a stack of your favouite books or magazines at the other end, and you have your balanced 3 elements.
Hang art in a grouping: If you have a newly painted bookcase, try hanging a trio of art pieces above it. This will create a focal point in your room and draw the eye to your new piece of furniture. This design trick works wonderfully over buffets and sideboards too.
Use three different textures: Another way to add interest to your room is to incorporate different textures. You could add a woven basket, a fluffy, textured throw rug, and a sleek metal tray to your furniture, for example. This creates a layered and cohesive look.
Remember, the key to styling your newly painted furniture using the rule of three is to keep it simple and cohesive.
Stick to the colour scheme you've chosen and use odd numbers to create a balanced and visually appealing display.
Remember, however, the rule of three is just a guideline, so don't be afraid to experiment and find what works best for your space. And most importantly, have fun with it!
Styling your furniture is a great way to add personality and interest to your home, and after up-cycling your furniture with Vintage Bird Furniture Paint, you're sure to have a beautiful and unique piece to work with.
Foliage and flowers make for wonderful, interchangeable, and budget friendly
centre pieces. Just head outside with the secateurs and see what you can find!
Make them one of your three elements, or make a grouping of three just using flowers or plants.
Grouping three different types of foliage that are different heights, or colours makes a powerful, eye catching vignette.
So, there you have it - my top tips for using the rule of three to style your newly painted furniture. Remember to have fun and experiment until you find the perfect look for your space. Try something unexpected - make your space unique.
Thanks for reading, and happy styling,
Corrina xx
