Why We Love Decorating

With Pink

Pink is such a versatile colour. At Bird on the Hill Designs, we don't think pink should be restricted to just little girls bedrooms. Adding a splash (or a lot) of pink to your decor is always a good idea!
Here' three reasons why we love using pink...
  • It's an uplfiting colour - it has definite "feel good" vibes.

  • There is a shade of pink that will mix and match with just about every other colour.

  • Pink will work in your decor in every season

"Perfectly Pink' Vintage Vibes

Soft and muted shades of pink, and vintage styled furniture are a match made in heaven. Throw in some soft greys, antique whites, or even black and charcoal for a beautiful contrast. Dusty pink tones like in the pic from Pinterest above, will create interest without being overwhelming - still letting your decor and porcelain shine.

We love the warm, soft tones of "Dahlia" from our mineral paint collection.

Or for a true, vintage, 'washed and worn' look, you can't go past traditional milk paint. Our pick is "Dusty Rose" from the Vintage Bird Milk Paint range.

Mix & Match

Pink truly is a versatile shade. You can mix with just about any other colour - even other shades of pink! Don't restrict yourself to just other light and pastel colours - you can try navy blue, deep taupe, olive, and mustards to name a few.

Introduce hints of pink by mixing and matching patterns in linens, cushions or bedding. Think vintage, old fashioned roses, camellia's, peonies, faded hydrangeas, paired with stripes, spots, or blocks of plain colour. The picture from Pinterest above shows just how perfectly pink looks with other colours in a 'mix and match' decor.

Be Bold!

If you want to create a more noticeable focal point, you can't go past a bright pop of colour, and the bright tone of magenta is no shrinking violet!

This colour looks amazing when teamed with other bright and bold shades, like the blue ginger jars in the picture above.

Add some green foliage, and pretty wall art, and this is a great way to still get the coastal, "Hamptons" look without having to stick to an all blue and white scheme.

This pretty cabinet belongs to stylist Alison Swanston, and is painted in our "Hot Gossip" shade of magenta. A real show stopper!
